American Public University System (APUS) today announced that they have received the Sloan Consortium (Sloan-C) Effective Practice Award for "Semantic Mapping of Learning Assets".
The award, presented at the Sloan-C annual Emerging Technologies Conference in San Jose, CA, marks the first time that the same representatives from a single institution have been recognized in consecutive years.
Sloan-C, an association of institutions and organizations of higher education engaged in online learning, recognizes effective practices which provide evidence of innovation and replicability, while advancing the goals of access, learning effectiveness, faculty and student satisfaction, and scalability.
"APUS was honored this year for its work in utilizing an open source repository and semantic engine for analysis and alignment of content, materials, and learning activities across all courses within our school of business," said Dr. Phil Ice, director of course design, research and development for APUS. "The application of semantic technologies is a new frontier in eLearning, and for our institution to be recognized for mastery in this area is truly gratifying."
Dr. Ice, a three-time honoree, was joined by APUS Director of Instructional Design Jennifer Staley, APUS Business School Dean Chad Patrizi; and Justin Beals, an independent eLearning strategist.
"We are honored to be recognized by the Sloan Consortium for the second consecutive year for our work in aligning technology with the educational goals of our institution," said APUS President and CEO Dr. Wallace E. Boston. "The work of Phil and his team has given us incredible insight into our data and now enables us to build classes that even better meet the diverse needs of our students."
