City to draft 3-year development plan for 13 major industries

Besides commonly-known government-supported industries, such as new energy and sensor networks, the city's enterprises that are engaged in processing milk for students, mineral water and food production will see opportunities for expansion in 2013.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Hangzhou Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization proposed a plan on the development of the city's major industries in the following three years to solicit the opinions of government departments of district- and county-levels.

The plan covers 13 major industries in the city, including advanced equipment manufacturing, sensor networks, bio-pharmaceutical and food and beverage. With specific targets for development and innovation, the plan aims to facilitate the growth of major enterprises and local industries.

For instance, the three-year plan for the equipment manufacturing industry proposed that the total output value of the city's advanced equipment manufacturers, whose annual operating revenue exceed CNY 20 million, will reach more than CNY 600 billion by 2015, and the total revenue from advanced equipment manufacturing services will account for ten percent of the total. The plan also proposed that the number of such enterprises with annual revenue of more than CNY 10 billion will reach ten in the city. The close collaboration of backbone enterprises and SMEs will improve the specialisation and general industrial structure, forming a large number of component suppliers for such enterprises.

Moreover, the sales target of the city's food & beverage sector for 2015 is CNY 120 billion, which constitutes an annual growth rate of ten percent. The number of companies that achieve annual sales of more than CNY 100 million is expected to exceed 150.

Large-scale food and beverage multinationals with competiveness in global market will reach ten. Specifically, beverage production, dairy processing, meat processing and vegetable and fruit storage and transportation will see rapid development.

Hangzhou Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization noted at the meeting that the total output value of the city's enterprises with annual operating revenue of more than CNY 20 million stood at CNY 1.3 trillion, up eight percent YoY.
